Apple Launches Core AI for Apple-Silicon Optimized On-Device Generative AI

At WWDC 26, Apple announced the Core AI framework, the official successor to Core ML. It is designed to allow developers to run large language models and generative AI entirely on-device, supporting both custom-converted PyTorch models and pre-optimized open-source models.

Swift 6.4 Brings New Language Features and Swift Testing/XCTest Interop

Currently available as a beta in Xcode 27, Swift 6.4 introduces a range of enhancements: better C interoperability, simplified OS availability check, fine-grained warning control, async support in defer, efficient iteration for non-noncopyable types, up to 4x faster URL parsing, and improved interoperability between Swift Testing and XCTest.

SwiftUI Adds New Document Protocol, Improves Performance, and More

Announced at WWDC 2026, the latest SwiftUI release brings a new Document protocol for efficient disk access and snapshot-based updates, along with improved APIs for reordering items in lists, grids, and sections. In addition, it expands presentation features, such as swipe actions on any view, better AsyncImage caching, and lazy state initialization for Observable types to boost performance.

SwiftData Enhances Queries, Adds Support for External Types and Data Store Observation

The 2027 release of SwiftData introduces support for persisting custom and third-party types via Codable, along with the ability to organize data into SwiftUI list sections. It also adds new capabilities for observing data store changes through ResultsObserver and HistoryObserver.

Android Studio Quail 2 Redesigns Agent Mode, Streamlines AI-Assisted Coding

The latest release of Android Studio, Quail 2, now stable, expands Gemini/AI Agent Mode inside the IDE by enabling multiple AI conversations in parallel and further advancing Google’s push to integrate AI-powered workflows directly into Android Studio. It also enhances debugging and profiling capabilities and makes it easier to explore experimental features.
